The University of Manchester hosts one of the three international JSTOR Data Centres which provide users worldwide with access to the JSTOR archive of scholarly journals. UK academic and research institutions are able to participate in JSTOR by subscribing to the JSTOR licence agreement negotiated by JISC Collections.

The information below gives a brief introduction to JSTOR. Use the menu (see above) to navigate to various sections of the JSTOR website for further information.

What is JSTOR?

JSTOR is a digital archive collection of core scholarly journals. It is unique in that complete archives of these journals have been digitised, starting with the very first issues, many of which were published as far back as the nineteenth century.

Accessible to researchers via site licences at academic libraries, the JSTOR archive combines high-resolution page images for display and printing with a linked text file for full-text searches of major scholarly journals. Staff and students affiliated with participating institutions can search, view and print JSTOR journal articles using personal computers at any time and from any location. Access to specific titles may vary depending upon an institution's participation in available JSTOR collections.
