Feedback from the Barriers and Enablers session
There was an Open Session on what the barriers and enablers of mobile learning are. These are summarised below:
- Search for enablers on Twitter
- Enabler - city-wide WIFI Networks are needed.
- Enabler - 4 billion mobile phones in the world – almost half the population has a mobile device.
- Enabler - all phones will be GPS-enabled within a few months.
- Enabler - connectivity should be like water.
- Enabler - student devices.
- Enabler - social change – natural advances in technology.
- Enabler - either we use the students' own devices or we need to purchase new devices.
- Enabler - city-wide WIFI Networks are needed.
- Search for barriers on Twitter
- Barrier - funding – training/staff
- Barrier - cultural barriers - staff
- Barrier - Old Tech – By the time it's embedded it is out of date.
- Barrier - change the pedagogical model to take advantage of the technology.
- Barrier - lack of standards for mobile development.
- Barrier - cost to the consumer.
- Barrier - fragmented devices.
- Barrier - constant online assumption.
- Barrier - transferring info/images/data cheaply is an issue.
- Barrier - knowledge and training.
- Barrier - the barrier is the human not the technology.
